The Aiguille du Midi (3,842 m / 12,605 ft) is a mountain in the Mont Blanc massif within the French Alps. It is a very popular tourist destination and can be directly accessed by cable car from Chamonix. It receives half a million visits a year and puts visitors as close to Mont Blanc as they can without having any mountaineering experience.

The journey up to Aiguille du Midi. The journey up to the Aiguille du Midi is a 2-part cable car ride. The first section climbs up to the Plan de l’Aiguille (2317m) taking around 10 minutes. From here you disembark. For some, it’s the start point for some stunning hikes around Mont Blanc massif.

The journey takes around 20-30 mins and can be quite pricy but it is absolutely worth it for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The first gondola takes you from the Chamonix Valley at 1,035m up to Plan de L’Aiguille at 2,317m.
Save. My family will be visiting in early July. We only have 1 day in Chamonix and I have read that its possible to do both Aiguille du Midi cable car and the train to Montevers and Mer de Glace in one day. I have read to allocate about 3 hours for Aiguille du Midi (says 2 hours up at the top).
